Dr. Hassan El-Noumani, President of Sohag University, expressed his pride in the university’s achievement of ranking first among Egyptian and African universities in the Infrastructure indicator for the sixth consecutive year, according to the official results announced by the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2025.
Dr. El-Noumani emphasized that this achievement reflects the university’s success in implementing internationally recognized sustainability standards across its various sectors. He noted that the university has carried out numerous initiatives and mechanisms that demonstrate its strong commitment to achieving the goals of Egypt Vision 2030 for Sustainable Development and the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research.
He extended his appreciation to everyone involved in this remarkable accomplishment, describing it as another milestone added to the university’s growing record of national and international achievements. He also explained that 38 Egyptian universities and 96 African universities participated in this year’s ranking, while the total number of participating universities worldwide reached 1,745, with Sohag University securing 297th place globally.
Dr. Khaled Omran, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, stated that, in addition to its outstanding performance in the Infrastructure indicator, the university ranked second in Africa and Egypt in the Water indicator, third in the Transportation indicator, and fourth in the Education and Research indicator. He explained that the university has implemented a wide range of sustainability programs and initiatives across all sectors in alignment with Egypt Vision 2030 for Sustainable Development.
Dr. Hamdy Hassanein, General Supervisor of the University’s Sustainability Ranking File, noted that the dedicated efforts of the entire ranking team enabled Sohag University to maintain its leading position in Africa for the sixth consecutive year, despite the significant increase in the number of universities participating in this year’s UI GreenMetric rankings.
