Dr. Hassan Al-Numani, President of Sohag University, joined Major General Samir Farag, strategic expert and former Director of the Morale Affairs Department of the Armed Forces, in planting a tree bearing his name inside the New Sohag University campus. The event took place as part of the Presidential Initiative “100 Million Trees”, during the Major General’s visit to the university to deliver an educational lecture in celebration of Sinai Liberation Day.
The tree-planting ceremony preceded the start of the university’s seminar titled “Sinai: From Liberation to Development,” presented by Major General Samir Farag. The event coincided with his participation in the University Council meeting for this month.
Dr. Hassan Al-Numani emphasized that Major General Farag’s visit represents a valuable addition to the university and its students. He noted that Sohag University continues its active participation in the “100 Million Trees” initiative, having already planted trees named after President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, as well as several ministers, university presidents, and military figures, including Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education. Al-Numani explained that these symbolic plantings promote a sense of belonging and community participation, aligning with the university’s mission to contribute to sustainable development. He added that Major General Farag personally planted the tree that bears his name.
For his part, Major General Samir Farag expressed his happiness at planting a tree in his name at Sohag University, praising the university’s achievements in implementing the presidential initiative and its green transformation strategy, which aims to expand green spaces and adapt to climate change. He highlighted the initiative’s importance as a developmental and educational effort that benefits the entire university community, instills values of giving and hope among younger generations, and raises environmental awareness among students.
During the event, Dr. Al-Numani and Major General Farag toured the university’s tree-planting projects, where they inspected newly planted lemon, mango, and olive trees as part of the university’s plan to green 10,000 square meters near the main gate of the new campus.
The event was also attended by Mr. Ashraf Al-Qadi, University Secretary-General; a number of faculty deans, Dr. Yasser Abdel Fattah and Mr. Sayed Badawy, Assistant Secretaries-General; as well as university leaders and faculty members.
