The Center of Sustainable Development at Sohag University Won two Major and Emerging Projects in the “National Initiative for Smart Green Projects” for Sohag Governorate.

Prof Hassan Al-Noaman, President of Sohag University, stated that within the framework of the university’s interest in participating in the national initiatives concerned with integrating the concepts and goals of sustainable development into the educational process and scientific research, a research team from the university’s Sustainable Development Center won two research projects on sustainability applications, the first on the use of solar panels in shading roofs, generating green (sustainable) energy, and planting the sides of corridors in government institutions with tented and evergreen trees to reduce emissions and reduce the carbon footprint, while the second project was about inventing a device to rationalize irrigation water.

Prof. Khaled Omran, Vice President of the University for Environmental Service and Community Development Affairs, confirmed that the Sustainable Development Center team was announced as a winner in the regional conference for the governorates of South Upper Egypt dedicated to announcing the winning projects in the “National Initiative for Smart Green Projects,” which was held yesterday on Sunday October 1 in Luxor Governorate, with the participation of Major General Tariq Al-Feki, Governor of Sohag governoate, Counselor Mustafa Elham, Governor of Luxor, Major General Ashraf Al-Daoudi, Governor of Qena, and Major General Ashraf Attia, Governor of Aswan, in addition to representatives from the Ministry of Planning, the Ministry of Local Development, the executive committees of the initiative in each governorate, and the owners of the winning projects.

Prof. Hamdy Hassanein, Director of the University’s Center for Sustainable Development and head of the research team, explained that this is the first project aims to use solar panels to cover the university’s parking lots and rooftops to generate clean electricity and expand the planting of tent trees and rooftop cultivation to reduce emissions and reduce the carbon footprint to reach carbon neutrality, according to the strategy. Hassanein stated that the research team included that a group of specialized professors, such as Prof. Hisham Hamed Amin, Head of the Electrical Engineering Department at Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Enas Mahmoud at Faculty of Agriculture and General Supervisor of the University Gardens, Dr. Alaa Abdel Samie in the Energy Department at Faculty of Technology and Education, in addition to Dr. Ahmed Abdel Malek from Assiut Engineering while the second project was led by Dr. Abdul Rahman Abdul Wahed from the Land and Water Department at the College of Agriculture,

Pointing out that a detailed presentation of the projects submitted by the governorate was presented, and the results of the competition were presented by Prof. Ahmed Aziz, Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee of Sohag Governorate and former President of Sohag University

Finally the governors of Sohag, Luxor, Qena, and Aswan “honored the owners of the winning projects and gave them certificates of honor.” We wish them success in announcing the winning projects
