Sohag University wins the First Position among the African and Egyptian Universities in the International Ranking of Sustainable Universities “Green Metrics”

Prof. Hassan Al-Noamany, President of Sohag University, announced that the university has won the first position among the Egyptian and African universities in the GreenMetric international ranking of sustainable universities for the year 2024, as the university jumped 65 global positions to come in number 255 out of 1,477 universities from 95 countries.
Al-Numany expressed his happiness with this achievement, which is added to the series of achievements and advanced positions that the university has achieved in the international ranking, explaining that the university during the last period has developed an intensive plan to implement the sustainable development goals, this is in implementation of Egypt’s 2030 vision for sustainable development and in line with the national strategy for higher education and scientific research, which focused on integrating sustainability into the educational and research process.

thanked Prof Hassan Al-Numany, President of the University, for his unlimited support, and to the all ranking team members for their efforts and cooperation that resulted in this distinguished center, adding that the ranking is based on 6 basic criteria, which are facilities and infrastructure, energy and climate change, etc.
Water management, waste management, sustainable transportation, education and scientific research.
He added that each standard includes several indicators, including more than 50 indicators, which include an inventory of all the university’s activities and explain the sustainable practices that have been applied in each of them.
Prof. Hamdy Hassanein, Director of the Center of Sustainable Development and General Coordinator of the University’s file for the international ranking, stated that this is the fifth time for the University to participate in this ranking, and our results in the past four years have ranged between fifth and eighth positions.
Our University got the first position despite the increasing number of the participating universities to 36 Egyptian universities and 75 African universities, as a result of the university administration’s unlimited support for the team work, which made strenuous efforts in preparing and arranging the files required for this ranking.
