Sohag University President and the General Syndicate of Agriculturalists witness the Opening of the First International Scientific Conference of Faculty of Agriculture on Sustainable Agriculture in the Light of Climate Change

Prof. Hassan Al-Noamany, President of Sohag University, opened the activities of the first international scientific conference organized by Faculty of Agriculture under the title “Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security in Light of Climate Change,” and it was held at the International Conference Center at the university’s new headquarters, in the presence of Dr. Abdel Nasser Yassin, Vice President of the University for Education and Student Affairs. Dr. Khaled Omran, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development, and the guest of the conference, Dr. Sayed Khalifa, Syndicate head of Agriculturalists, and Dr. Khalaf Hammam, Dean of faculty of agriculture, at the International Conference Center at the New University

At the beginning of his speech, Dr. Hassan Al-Noamany welcomed the university’s guests, including professors, researchers, experts, entrepreneurs, and owners of companies and factories participating in the conference activities from inside and outside the governorate, praising the topic that the conference is discussing in its first edition, which has been on the list of concerns of the Egyptian state recently.

It has become a top priority in the government action agenda, due to its dire environmental, political, economic and social effects, especially the harmful impact in the areas of  the agricultural field. Therefore, the state seeks to achieve  the sustainable development in the agriculture and apply sustainable agricultural practices, to preserve the environment and biodiversity, achieve food security and improve Economic  and social sustainability for farmers

At the beginning of the conference Alnomany thanked everyone who contributed to organizing and implementing the conference’s activities, wishing more success, achieving its desired goals, and coming up with distinctive recommendations that can be applied on the ground. Dr. Sayed Khalifa, head of the Agricultural Syndicate, expressed his happiness at being at the university and participating in the activities of the first international conference of faculty of Agriculture, appreciating the topic that the conference discussed about food security and confronting climate change, by supporting the state’s plans, the initiatives of the President of the Republic, and the national agricultural projects that he launched to achieve self-sufficiency of strategic crops and taking advantage of water and land resources to develop the Egyptian agricultural sector

From his part, Dr. Khalaf Hammam expressed words of thanks and gratitude to the President of the University for his constant and continuous support for all scientific activities organized by the faculty, and for meeting all the requirements of the educational process, offering his greetings to the attendees participating in the conference from inside and outside the University, stressing that the first’s first scientific conference highlighted the importance of Agriculture and its important role in meeting human needs for food, water and energy

He also discussed the topic of sustainable agriculture and food security in light of climate change, and the scientific sessions addressed a number of important topics, including food security in Egypt, agriculture and production guarantees, good practices and efficiency capacity, and the current and future impacts of climate change on the agricultural and food sector.

And climate-resilient breeds in both livestock and poultry production, as well as reclaimed lands, agricultural pests and diseases, and methods of preventing and controlling them in light of climate developments.

Dr. Mohamed Youssef explained that the conference included 4 scientific sessions with the participation of 200 researchers and 35 listeners to discuss 55 scientific researches, noting that the conference had large participation from faculties of agriculture from 12 Egyptian universities, including the universities of Cairo, Ain Shams, Banha, Damanhour, Al-Azhar, and New Valley. , Kafr El-Sheikh, as well as the Agricultural Research Center in Cairo, and the Desert Research Center in Sohag.

Finally, Dr. Hassan Al-Nomany, President of the University, and Dr. Sayed Khalifa, General Head of the Agricultural Syndicate, opened the agricultural exhibition in which more than 30 companies and factories in the governorate, and specialists in the fields of seed production, pesticides, and foodstuffs participated in the exhibition.
