Students from Sohag University participated in an expanded meeting with Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, alongside representatives of student unions from public, private, national, and technological universities and higher institutes, central student organizations, and student affairs departments. The meeting aimed to strengthen communication with students, harness their potential in supporting national initiatives, particularly those related to energy conservation, and advance the implementation of the “Save It… Light It” initiative.

Dr. Hassan El-Noumani, President of Sohag University, stated that Dr. Konsowa emphasized that the success of the “Save It… Light It” initiative depends on its ability to move beyond awareness campaigns and become measurable, practical behaviors adopted in everyday life. He stressed the importance of embedding energy conservation as part of students’ daily habits, thereby supporting the state’s efforts to address challenges facing the energy sector. He also noted that with approximately four million university students across Egypt, the initiative has the potential to generate broad and lasting societal impact.

Dr. El-Noumani reaffirmed the importance of promoting a culture of energy conservation not only within university campuses but also throughout the wider community. He highlighted the importance of positive engagement in light of the global challenges facing the energy sector, explaining that the current stage requires collective efforts and effective utilization of young people’s potential, as they represent the most influential force in shaping responsible community behavior within universities.

During the meeting, the Ministry’s Official Spokesperson delivered an awareness presentation outlining the campaign’s objectives and implementation mechanisms across universities. The presentation focused on spreading a “positive contagion” of responsible daily behaviors, encouraging the effective use of digital media and creative content, and showcasing success stories as inspiring examples for students.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the students reaffirmed their full commitment to supporting and implementing the “Save It… Light It” initiative by expanding student participation and developing innovative, practical ideas and initiatives that contribute to achieving the campaign’s objectives. They also expressed their determination to extend awareness messages to different segments of society, particularly within their families, to help foster a lasting culture of responsible energy consumption.
