Dr. Hassan El-Noumani, President of Sohag University, announced that the university has begun preparations for the Fourth International Environmental Conference, which will be held on 1 April 2026 under the theme “Towards a Green Environment and a Sustainable Future: Contemporary Environmental Challenges and Pathways for Action.”

Dr. El-Noumani stated that this year’s conference will focus on several key themes, including climate change and its impact on sustainable development, as well as its environmental, economic, and social implications. The conference will also address environmental pollution and waste management, in addition to the role of the green economy and renewable energy in addressing environmental crises and promoting sustainable growth.

He added that the conference agenda includes discussions on protecting biodiversity and conserving ecosystems amid accelerating environmental changes, as well as addressing environmental security in the context of water scarcity, limited natural resources, and future sustainability challenges.

Dr. Khaled Omran, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development and President of the Conference, explained that the fourth edition of the International Environmental Conference will feature a broad range of contemporary environmental issues and challenges that hinder sustainable development. The conference will explore sustainability in urban planning and smart cities, with a focus on building safe, inclusive, and sustainable urban environments.

He added that the conference will also examine the role of universities and community institutions in environmental education and public awareness, while highlighting environmental policies, legislation, and principles of good governance as essential foundations for achieving environmental justice and sustainable development. Furthermore, the conference will promote the concept of an inclusive environment and discuss the rights of persons with disabilities in sustainable development, as well as strategies for empowering them to participate effectively in environmental issues. It will also explore the role of innovation and technology in advancing sustainability.

Dr. Sabah Saber, Secretary-General of the Conference, explained that the conference objectives have been designed to strengthen the role of scientific research and innovation in providing practical and sustainable solutions to climate change and environmental pollution. The conference also seeks to support the transition toward a green economy and renewable energy as two fundamental pillars of sustainable development and environmental resilience.

She added that the conference aims to facilitate the exchange of expertise and best practices among researchers, policymakers, and relevant institutions, while fostering effective partnerships that contribute to building a more sustainable environmental future.
