Dr. Hassan Al-Noamany, President of Sohag University, stated that in light of the initiative of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi “Bedaya” and the directives of Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the university began preparing to participate in the international ranking of environmentally friendly universities “Green Metrics,” which aims to motivate universities to transform to green environmentally friendly universities, and to enhance commitment to environmental sustainability standards, within the framework of the Egyptian state’s efforts to transition to a green economy, in light of Egypt’s vision for sustainable development.
Al-Noamany confirmed that he issued an administrative decision to form a team work to prepare Sohag University’s files to participate in this ranking under the supervision of Dr. Khaled Omran, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, and Dr. Hamdy Hassanein, Director of the Center of Sustainable Development and General Coordinator of the University’s file.
In this context, Dr. Khalid Omran held the first meeting with the committee responsible for preparing the file, adding that the universities will be evaluated according to 6 main criteria, which are (the infrastructure and facilities standard, energy and climate change, waste management, water management, transportation within the university, and the learning and research Scientific standard criteria), in addition to evaluating the website of the Center for Sustainable Development on the information network, so that it explains the sustainable activities of the university in all fields, and highlights the aesthetic appearance of the university, its facilities and its green components.
Dr. Hamdy Hassanein explained that work is now underway to update the website of the Center for Sustainable Development in its Arabic and English versions, in addition to preparing all the required files, as uploading the files to the competition’s platform will be completed at the end of next October, adding that the teamwork as includes distinguished elite of staff members and administrative staff who are able to highlight the university’s capabilities in the field of sustainability, especially after the university obtained distinguished positions globally and in Africa four times in a row in this global ranking of sustainable universities since it entered it in 2020 for the first time.
