Sohag University Holds its First Meeting In preparation for Participating in the Environmentally Friendly University Competition, Which is Launched by the Supreme Council of Universities

Prof. Hassan Al-Noamani, President of Sohag University, stated that the Supreme Council of Universities, under the patronage of Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, has launched the competition of the best environmentally friendly university for the academic year 2024/2025, with the aim of motivating the Egyptian universities to transform their environments into green, environmentally friendly universities, and enhancing commitment to Environmental sustainability standards, within the framework of the Egyptian state’s efforts to transfer to a green economy and achieve sustainable development in light of Egypt’s Vision 2030.

Al-Noamani confirmed that he had issued an administrative decision to form a team work to prepare Sohag University’s files to participate in the competition under the supervision of Prof. Khaled Omran, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs and member of the Supreme Committee of the Competition at the Supreme Council of Universities, and Prof. Hamdy Hassanein, Dean of Faculty of Graduate Studies and Environmental Research and Director of the Sustainability Development Center and the general coordinator of the university’s file.

In this context, Dr. Khaled Omran held a meeting with the committee responsible for preparing the file, adding that the universities will be evaluated according to 7 main standards, which are (the university’s infrastructure and risk management standard, energy and climate change standard, waste management standard, water management standard, and the transportation standard in the university, the standard of educational systems, learning and scientific research, the standard of the university and society) in addition to presenting a video that explains the aesthetic appearance of the university and its facility and highlights its green components.

Dr. Hamdy Hassanein explained that uploading the files to the competition platform will be completed at the end of February, adding that the team  work includes a distinguished elite of staff members and the administrative staff  who are capable of highlighting the university’s capabilities in the field of sustainability, especially after the university recently obtained distinguished position globally and Africa in the Green Metrics global ranking of sustainable universities.

It is worth noting that the universities will be evaluated according to the level of commitment  with the standards, and the universities that will win the competition will be awarded financial prizes and certificates of appreciation.

This will be published on the website of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and its official pages on social networking sites, and the results of the competition will be announced on August 2024.
